Wait...Chocolate is Actually GOOD for Me?!

You heard right! A new study suggests that a square a day of the good stuff may actually decrease the risk of a stroke and heart attack by up to 40 percent!!  (And no, this is not an April Fool's Day Joke!)

Researchers found people who had an average of six grams of chocolate per day — or about one square of a chocolate bar — had a 39 percent lower risk of either a heart attack or stroke.

Other research has shown chocolate to be beneficial, but this study is unique in that it tracked the effects of chocolate over an 8-year time period - the longest span of any similar study.

Experts believe the flavonols found in chocolate are responsible - flavonols help the muscles in blood vessels widen, which leads to a drop in blood pressure.

Of course the researchers warn that too much chocolate is a bad thing, but now you don't have feel too guilty indulging in a little bit :)

My personal favorite?  Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Lovers Chocolate Bar - delicious!
